Save a board as a file

Keep a board and its images in one file, to back it up or open it on another device. No account needed.

(23)All platformsFree

How to

  1. Open the board, then open the menu and choose Settings.
  2. Under Canvas files, click Export current canvas. DarkRef saves the board as a .darkref file.
  3. To open it on any device, go to Settings and click Open canvas file.

Tips

  • The Windows app asks where to save the file. On iPhone and iPad the share sheet opens. The Mac app and the web app download it.
  • The file holds the board's images and notes. Drawings and arrows aren't saved in it.
  • Opening a file adds it as a new board, so nothing is replaced.
  • Live boards can't be saved as files. Use Save a local copy in the Collaborate panel first.
